About

An independent guide for a decision most people make once

Coin Appraisers Guild exists to help people figure out what they actually have and what kind of help fits, before they clean anything, accept an offer, or pay for a service they didn't need.

What we do

Most people who come to this site have one coin, an inherited collection, or a decision to make about selling, insuring, or authenticating something — and no reliable way to tell what kind of help actually fits. We publish plain-language guidance on coin identification and value factors, and we explain the difference between a quick market estimate, a formal written appraisal, third-party grading and authentication, and an outright sale, so that decision is easier to make well.

We are not a coin dealer, buyer, grading service, or auction house. We don't purchase collections, and our guidance doesn't depend on using any particular professional or service.

A founding professional guild, in development

Alongside the education and referral guidance above, we're building a genuine professional membership program for numismatic professionals — appraisers, dealers, auction specialists, graders, authenticators, and numismatic estate specialists. That program, described in full on the homepage membership section, is currently in development. We don't yet have an established member roster, governing board, accreditation program, or certification process, and we're direct about that until those standards and a review operation actually exist.

Independence and identity

Coin Appraisers Guild is a new, independent organization. We have no affiliation with, and make no claim of succession from, the former American Guild of Appraisers, OPEIU, the AFL-CIO, or any predecessor organization once associated with this domain. Any membership, standards, or review program described on this site is new and currently being built — not inherited from any prior entity.

How we approach our content

Our editorial approach is described in more detail on our editorial standards page. In short: we explain value factors and identification points rather than publishing static price tables, we're direct about what we don't yet offer, and we don't fabricate reviews, credentials, or results.
